ST. JOHN’S, NL (December 1, 2015) – Montreal Canadiens and St. John’s IceCaps General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the IceCaps have signed centre Luke Pither to a 25-game Professional Tryout contract (PTO).

The 26-year-old Oshawa, Ont. native has collected five goals and five assists in 12 games this season with the Brampton Beast of the ECHL. The six-foot, 194-pound pivot played his amateur hockey with the Kingston Frontenacs, Guelph Storm, Belleville Bulls and Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.

MONTREAL, QUE. – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have signed defenceman Josiah Didier to a professional try out contract.

In 40 games this season – his senior year with the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s University of Denver Pioneers – the 21-year-old Didier recorded 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and 58 penalty minutes.

In 148 career NCAA games with the University of Denver from 2011 to 2015, the 6-3, 220-pound defenceman recorded 29 points (four goals, 25 assists) and 203 penalty minutes. Before his collegiate career, the Littleton, Colo. native spent the 2010-11 season with the United States Hockey League’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, where in 58 games he amassed 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) and 81 penalty minutes.

Didier was selected by the Canadiens in the fourth round (97th overall) in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday, April 2 when they’ll host the Chicago Wolves at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.

MONTREAL, QUE. – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have signed forward Sahir Gill to a professional try out contract. He is expected to play tonight as the ‘Dogs take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at FirstOntario Centre at 7 p.m.

Gill has split this season between the Bulldogs, the American Hockey League’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers. In one game with Hamilton, the 22-year-old has recorded no points or penalty minutes. In 12 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the 5-10, 178-pound forward has recorded three points (one goal, two assists). In 15 games with Wheeling, the Terrace, B.C. native has recorded 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) and four penalty minutes.

Gill also spent the entire 2013-14 season – his first as a professional – with the Nailers. In 67 regular season games with Wheeling, he recorded 54 points (13 goals, 41 assists) and 26 penalty minutes. Before turning pro, he spent three seasons (2010 to 2013) with the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Boston University Terriers. In 117 career games with Boston University, he recorded 78 points (28 goals, 50 assists) and 55 penalty minutes.

In eight games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers this season, Gill has recorded eight points (two goals, six assists) and two penalty minutes.

Gill also spent the 2013-14 season – his first as a professional – with the Nailers. In 67 regular season games with Wheeling, the 22-year-old recorded 54 points (13 goals, 41 assists) and 26 penalty minutes. Before turning pro, the 5-10, 178-pound forward spent three seasons (2010 to 2013) with the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Boston University Terriers. In 117 career games with Boston University, the Terrace, B.C. native recorded 78 points (28 goals, 50 assists) and 55 penalty minutes.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, Nov. 13 when they’ll visit the St. John’s IceCaps at Mile One Centre at 6 p.m. The ‘Dogs will be back at home on Sunday, Nov. 16 when they’ll host the Rochester Americans at FirstOntario Centre at 3 p.m.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have signed forward Nick Sorkin to a professional try out contract. He is scheduled to join the Bulldogs on the road and is expected to practice with the team tomorrow in San Antonio, Texas.

Sorkin recently completed his senior season with the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s University of New Hampshire Wildcats. In 41 games with UNH, the Rockville, Maryland native recorded 41 points (20 goals, 21 assists) and 14 penalty minutes. In 142 career regular season games with UNH over four seasons from 2010 to 2014, the 6’3”, 195-pound forward recorded 98 points (34 goals, 64 assists) and 44 penalty minutes.

Before starting his collegiate career, Sorkin spent one season in the United States Hockey League. In 53 games split between the Waterloo Black Hawks and Sioux City Musketeers during the 2009-2010 season, the 22-year-old recorded 34 points (eight goals, 26 assists) and 10 penalty minutes.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday, March 28th, when the ‘Dogs will visit the San Antonio Rampage (AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers) at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas at 8:30 p.m. The Bulldogs return to FirstOntario Centre on Saturday, April 12th when they will host the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres) at 7:00 p.m.

JORDONSOUTHORNELMIRAJACKALS_1.Southorn, who didn’t see game action for the Bulldogs after signing a professional try out contract on Thursday, February 27th, has spent this season with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets and Elmira Jackals, as well as the Elite Ice Hockey League’s Dundee Stars in the United Kingdom. In 39 games with Fort Wayne, the Montreal, Quebec native has recorded 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) and 36 penalty minutes. In three games with Elmira, the 6’3”, 205-pound defenceman recorded four points (one goal, three assists) and seven penalty minutes. In three games with Dundee, the 23-year-old recorded two assists and four penalty minutes.

In 191 career ECHL regular season games with the Trenton Devils, Trenton Titans, Wheeling Nailers, Jackals and Komets, Southorn has recorded 91 points (29 goals, 62 assists) and 202 penalty minutes. In two career American Hockey League regular season games with the Providence Bruins, he has recorded no points and no penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round (104th overall) in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday, March 7th when the ‘Dogs will host the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have recalled forward Ben Duffy from the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers and have signed forward Scott Zurevinski to a 25-game professional try out contract.

In 13 games with Hamilton, the Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia native has recorded two assists and no penalty minutes. In three games with Wheeling, the 5’10”, 177-pound forward has recorded three points (two goals, one assist) and no penalty minutes. The 21-year-old spent the 2012-2013 season with the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 68 regular season games, he recorded 110 points (39 goals, 71 assists) and four penalty minutes. He was signed to a one-year contract by the Bulldogs on July 11, 2013.

Zurevinski has spent the entire 2013-2014 season to date with Wheeling. In 16 games, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has recorded six points (three goals, three assists) and 26 penalty minutes. In 49 games with Wheeling last season, the 6’3”, 215-pound forward recorded 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) and 46 penalty minutes. In eight career American Hockey League games, the 25-year-old has recorded no points and 11 penalty minutes.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, December 6th, when they will visit the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The ‘Dogs return to Copps Coliseum on Sunday, December 8th when they will host the Monsters at 3:00 p.m.

Bulldogs’ Nystrom Released from PTO Contract, Heads to KHL

MONTREAL, QC. — Canadiens prospect Erik Nyström has left the Hamilton Bulldogs and is on his way to play for the team nicknamed the Bears in the KHL.  Medveščak Zagreb announced that they had signed Nyström to a one-year deal on the team’s website (see below.) Nyström had completed 17 games of his 25-game professional tryout contract with the Bulldogs.

Nyström will join the team this week and is expected to make his KHL debut on Thursday vs. HC Sibir Novosibirsk.

“Nyström is a Swedish player born in 1993 who will bring some good flexibility to our team, which we need because of the KHL’s quota for players under the age of twenty-one. He was the Montreal Canadiens’ sixth draft pick, and when he was playing for the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs at the age of twenty he earned five points in sixteen games.” — Aaron Fox, Director of Athletics, Medveščak Zagreb

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have released forward Erik Nystrom from his professional try out contract.

In 17 games with Hamilton this season, Nystrom recorded five points (one goals, four assists) and four penalty minutes. The 20-year-old split last season between MODO of J20 SuperElit (junior) and Karlskrona HK of Allsvenskan (professional) in Sweden. In 22 regular season games with MODO, he recorded 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) and 32 penalty minutes. In 24 regular season games with Karlskrona, the Stockholm, Sweden native recorded 11 points (five goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the sixth round (154th overall) in the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27th, when they travel to Rochester, New York to face the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres) at 7:05 p.m. The Bulldogs will return to Copps Coliseum on Friday, November 29th when they will host the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s game will be broadcast live in high definition on Cable 14.
