HAMILTON, ONT. – The Hamilton Bulldogs are proud to announce that Davis Drewiske has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hamilton community during the 2014-15 season.
Over the course of this hockey season, Drewiske has been a leader among his teammates off the ice with his proactive approach to community involvement. Most notably, the Bulldogs defenceman took it upon himself to initiate a reading program in Hamilton-area schools in October. He visited schools throughout the year to discuss the virtues of reading, education and hard work. The University of Wisconsin alumnus encouraged students to ask questions and provided a positive influence to the children by promoting the value of staying in school.
Beyond Drewiske’s season-long reading program, he also took on a leading role in several other team community functions. He played road hockey with a group of fans as part of a team-initiated contest, engaged with fans during community practices and public skates, sang carols to sick children during a hospital visit during the holiday season, visited a class of underprivileged kids to answer questions, chat about hockey and give out gifts and snacks (aside from the reading program), started off the annual ‘Bowling with the Dawgs’ charity event with a heart-felt, impromptu thank-you speech to attendees, and acted as de facto MC in addition to greeting patrons and serving food at an ‘At Your Service’ charity fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Drewiske is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL’s 2014-15 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honouring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League later this month.
The Bulldogs will be back in action tonight when they’ll host the Chicago Wolves at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.

MONTREAL, QUE. – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Canadiens have re-assigned defenceman Morgan Ellis to the Bulldogs from the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers.
Ellis has split this season between the Bulldogs and Nailers. In two games with Hamilton, the 22-year-old has recorded seven penalty minutes. In 39 games with Wheeling, he has recorded 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) and 22 penalty minutes. In his first season in the ECHL, the Ellerslie, P.E.I. native currently sits tied for second among ECHL defencemen in goals and also leads all Nailers defencemen in goals, assists and points.
In 132 career American Hockey League regular season games with the Bulldogs, the 6-1, 204-pound defenceman has recorded 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) and 100 penalty minutes.
Ellis was selected by the Canadiens in the fourth round (117th overall) in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 20 when they’ll visit the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. at 7 p.m. The ‘Dogs return home on Friday, Feb. 27 when they’ll host the Charlotte Checkers at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Jan. 23, the Bulldogs will pay tribute to Hamilton’s fire, police and ambulance services with First Responders’ Night as the ‘Dogs host the Marlies (American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m. in the eighth of 12 games between the two teams this season.

FIRST RESPONDERS’ NIGHT – FRIDAY, JAN. 23
The Hamilton Bulldogs will pay tribute to the region’s police, fire and ambulance services with First Responders’ Night on Friday, Jan. 23 when the ‘Dogs take on the Toronto Marlies at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m. Fans at the game will get the chance to see first responders vehicles up close and there will also be a pre-game aerial stunt!

Bulldogs Injury Update
The Bulldogs gave an update on injuries to four players in Tuesday Weekly Release. Here are the following updates:
Connor Crisp – Out with a lower and upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day. Crisp was hit from behind in Saturday’s game against the Lake Erie Monsters where he left and did not return.
Magnus Nygren – Nygren is still sidelined with a concussion (upper-body injury) and is day-to-day, with having a setback last week.
Eric Tangradi – Tangradi will miss the next four weeks with a fracture in his left hand (upper-body injury) which occurred in a game against Milwaukee a couple weeks ago.
Jarred Tinordi – Tinordi is considered day-to-day with facial and head injuries (upper-body injury) during a fight in which he was knocked out in on Friday against Utica.
Stefan Fournier Back To Hamilton
The Montreal Canadiens have sent forward Stefan Fournier back to the Bulldogs after a three game conditioning stint in the ECHL with the Wheeling Nailers, where he recorded two assists.
Bulldogs And City Of Hamilton To Pay Tribute To First Responders
On Friday, Jan 23rd, the Bulldogs and the City of Hamilton will pay tribute to the regions’ police, fire and ambulance services when the ‘Dogs host the Toronto Marlies at the FirstOntario Centre. This will be the Bulldogs and City of Hamilton’s second year hosting an event for first responders. And according to a press release, the team will have ”a ceremonial puck drop and interactive in-game components associated with the first responders.”

HAMILTON, ONT. – The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and City of Hamilton announced today plans to honour the regions’ police, fire and ambulance services with First Responders’ Night on Friday, Jan. 23 when the ‘Dogs take on the Toronto Marlies at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
This is the second year that the city and Bulldogs have teamed up to organize this event in honour of Hamilton’s first responders, which includes police, fire and ambulance staff. In addition to the game, there will be a ceremonial puck drop as well as interactive in-game components and activities associated with the first responders theme.
“We’re excited that the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Bulldogs are partnering once again to recognize the tremendous work of our First Responders,” said the City of Hamilton’s manager of revenue generation Brian MacDonald. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together to show their appreciation for these individuals who help to keep our community safe.”
“First responders are our city’s heroes whose line of work can potentially put them in harm’s way each day,” said Bulldogs president Stephen Ostaszewicz. “We’re honoured to join forces with the City of Hamilton once again this year to help raise awareness and show appreciation for the great work our police, fire and ambulance services do each and every day.”

HAMILTON, ONT — It was a pretty special night in Hamilton, as the Bulldogs hosted the Rochester Americans on toy toss night, in support of the CHML, Y108 and 953 Fresh FM Children’s Fund, that will deliver the toys to children in need just in time for Christmas – and that always draws a good crowd.
GAME RUNDOWN
As noted above, tonight was a pretty special night at First Ontario Centre for the toy toss, and the Bulldogs had several chances in the opening period to score a much anticipated goal that would trigger the toy toss madness. But however, they failed to convert.
Every shot and every chance the Bulldogs had to score, the fans got louder, and louder anticipating a goal. But the Bulldogs did not get one, so fans would have to wait for the second period.
The second period would be a lot more special.
Hamilton’s forward Daniel Carr scored the first goal of the game and triggered the toy toss extravaganza, which lasted a good ten minutes with Bulldogs personnel cleaning up the thousands of wrapped teddy bears. It was quite the scene to witness.
Several minutes after the Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game, the Americans evened it up with a goal coming from Johan Larsson.
Moments after Larsson’s goal that tied things up for Rochester, they took the lead after Dan Catenacci deflected the puck in front, beating Mike Condon.
On Hamilton’s penalty kill, Condon made a huge cross-crease save that kept the game at 2-1 Rochester.
The Bulldogs were able to tie things with with 3:49 left in the second period after T.J. Hensick tapped in the loose puck that was sitting on the blueline after Drayson Bowman shot a puck off Nathan Lieuwen, which trickled behind him.
The Bulldogs were rolling at this point, and Jacob De La Rose had a wonderful chance to give the ‘Dogs the lead after receiving the puck at the top of the circle and firing a slap shot that would land right in the chest of Lieuwen.
With just 17 seconds remaining, Hensick came down the wing and chipped a weak shot past Lieuwen. That was Hensick’s second goal of the game and Hudon’s second assist of the night.
The third period was a lot more physical than the first two with players getting involved in after whistle scrums, and many more hits.
The Bulldogs played a good third period keeping their lead intact and they held on to take the win by a score of 3-2.
13,000 EXPECTED FOR BULLDOGS’ SCHOOL DAY GAME
Literacy-themed game’s attendance set to exceed last year’s total; tickets not available to public

HAMILTON, ONT. – The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club announced today 13,000 young hockey fans are expected fill FirstOntario Centre tomorrow morning for the Bulldogs’ annual School Day Game against the Rochester Americans at 10:15 a.m.
Students and teachers from several schools from the Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions will attend the game as part of curriculum to promote literacy. In conjunction with the Bulldogs, students read Roch Carrier’s The Hockey Sweater and had in-class activities associated with the book. Tomorrow’s game will feature in-game elements related to the curriculum.
School boards attending tomorrow’s game include: District School Board of Niagara, Grand Erie District School Board, Halton District School Board, Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Niagara Catholic District School Board and Upper Grand District School Board, as well as other private and independent schools.
The attendance total will exceed last year’s School Day Game, which hosted 12,185 people and was the highest-attended home game in 2013-14.
Tickets for tomorrow’s game are not available to the general public and flex packs aren’t available for redemption. Season ticket holders will be accommodated.

Canadiens assign forward Tim Bozon to the Kootenay Ice

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that forward Tim Bozon has been assigned to his junior team, the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.
“Tim Bozon has come a long way. He fought a life-threatening disease with courage and determination and we are pleased with what he accomplished in the last few months. He was able to take part in the rookie camp, the Canadiens’ official camp and the Hamilton Bulldogs training camp. However, with his progression having been diminished due to illness, we feel that one of the priorities for his long term development is for him to fully regain his physical strength. We believe that joining the Kootenay Ice in the WHL is the right decision at this time as it will allow Tim to fully recover”, said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.
Bozon, 20, took part in the Canadiens’ rookie camp last September, as well as the Club’s main camp. The 6’01’’ and 189 lbs forward played in his first professional game on September 26 in Quebec City. Bozon was assigned to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs on September 28. He played in all three preseason games with the Bulldogs against the St. John’s Icecaps.
In 63 games with Kamloops and Kootenay in the WHL in 2013-14, Bozon collected 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists).
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Bozon was selected in the third round, 64th overall by the Canadiens at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
BULLDOGS INVITE FANS TO PAINT THE ICE AT FIRSTONTARIO CENTRE
Hockey club invites fans to paint messages and well-wishes to the team in advance of opening weekend
HAMILTON, ONT. – With the start of hockey season just days away, it’s time to put the finishing touches to the ice surface and the Hamilton Bulldogs are calling all their fans to paint messages and well-wishes on the ice.
The Bulldogs will host a “Paint The Ice” event on Monday, Oct. 13 at FirstOntario Centre from 2-4 p.m.
All interested fans can enter through the Bay Street doors. Paint and brushes will be provided and each fan can help the Bulldogs prepare for the 2014-15 season.
The Bulldogs open the 2014-15 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they will visit the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial at 7:05 p.m. The puck drops for Hamilton’s home-opening weekend on Friday, Oct. 17, when the ‘Dogs host the Toronto Marlies at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
