Three Bulldogs’ Games to be Broadcast on Sportsnet 360

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today that Sportsnet 360 will televise three of the team’s games this winter, two of which will feature the heated rivalry with the Toronto Marlies.tokarskibulldogs

These three games are part of a 10-game schedule of American Hockey League games for Sportsnet 360 this season. AHL games will be broadcast on the station weekly starting with Hamilton and Toronto on February 9th. The games can also be seen on NHL Network in the United States.

In addition to the 10-game regular-season package, Sportsnet ONE will broadcast two-day coverage of the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic between the AHL All-Stars and the Swedish Hockey League’s Farjestad BK, including the Skills Competition and All-Star Game, from St. John’s, Newfoundland on February 11th and 12th.

Hamilton’s next game is its regular season and home opener, scheduled for Friday, October 11th at 7:30 p.m. against the St. John’s IceCaps at Copps Coliseum. The club will host a home opener street party starting at 5:00 p.m., which will feature food provided by Maple Lodge Farms, family entertainment, sponsor vendors and a beer garden serving Molson products. Y108 will also be hosting its Drive Show live at the street party from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have released four players from their training camp roster and assigned three others.

Among the players released today from professional try outs were defencemen Paul Cianfrini, Jonathan Narbonne and Jeremy Price as well as forward Kelsey Wilson.

Defenceman Matt Grassi and goaltender Mike Condon were assigned to the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers. Defenceman Dalton Thrower was assigned to the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants.

These latest moves reduce Hamilton’s training camp roster to 29 players, including 19 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders.

Forwards remaining on the Bulldogs’ training camp roster include Justin Courtnall, Stefan Chaput, Maxime Macenauer, Mike Blunden, Erik Nystrom, Akim Aliu, Louis Leblanc, Joonas Nattinen, Jordan Owens, Sven Andrighetto, Patrick Holland, Gabriel Dumont, Ben Duffy, Stefan Fournier, Stephen MacAulay, Alex Belzile, Nick Tarnasky, Christian Thomas and Martin St. Pierre. Defencemen still at training camp include Greg Pateryn, Darren Dietz, Nathan Beaulieu, Nathan McIver, Drew Schiestel, Magnus Nygren, Morgan Ellis and Joel Chouinard. The goaltenders remaining at training camp are Robert Mayer and Dustin Tokarski.

Hamilton’s third and final pre-season game will be played on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. when they will host the Utica Comets at J.L. Grightmire Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ontario. The Bulldogs regular season and home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 11th at 7:30 p.m. against the St. John’s IceCaps at Copps Coliseum.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Bulldogs have released six players from their training camp roster and assigned goaltender Peter Delmas to the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears.

Among the players released today were forwards Andre Morrissette, Trevor Bruess, David Laliberte and Chad Wiseman as well as defencemen Pierre Durepos and Matt Lashoff.

These latest roster moves reduce the Bulldogs’ training camp roster to 36 players, including 20 forwards, 13 defencemen and three goaltenders.

Hamilton’s next pre-season game will be played tonight, September 28th at 7:00 p.m. when they will be hosted by the Toronto Marlies at Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario. The Bulldogs’ next home pre-season game will be played on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Utica Comets at J.L. Grightmire Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ontario. MONTREAL – The Hamilton Bulldogs, the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, will play two games on the Bell Centre ice during the 2013-14 regular season. Under the direction of former Canadiens defenseman and Hamilton head coach Sylvain Lefebvre, the Bulldogs will successively host the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay’s AHL affiliate, on November 22 and the Binghamton Senators, Ottawa’s AHL farm team, on February 21, 2014.

The two games from the Bulldogs 2013-14 regular season schedule will give Montreal hockey fans an opportunity to see some of the organization’s prospects. Last year, the Bulldogs had a 1-1 record at the Bell Centre winning 3-2 against the Rochester Americans and dropping a 4-1 decision to the Crunch.

It will be the Bulldogs’ 10th and 11th contests at the Bell Centre in the history of the AHL franchise. The Bulldogs first ever match-up at the Bell Centre was played on March 18, 2007 versus the Syracuse Crunch, just a few weeks before the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate captured the first Calder Cup in franchise history. Carey Price, the Canadiens current goaltender, was a member of that championship Bulldogs squad in 2006-07.

Tickets for those two match-ups starting as low as $15.50 will go on sale on Saturday, September 21 at 12 p.m. (noon). Family packages are available for as low as $99 and include four tickets in the reds, four hot dogs and four soft drinks. Also, fans purchasing tickets for both Bulldogs games at the Bell Centre will enjoy 15% off.

Official Release: Bulldogs to host pre-season games in Dundas and Oakville

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – Hamilton Bulldogs President Stephen Ostaszewicz announced today the hockey club’s three-game pre-season schedule.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will open the pre-season on Friday, September 27th at 7:30 p.m. when they will host the Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville, Ontario.  On Saturday, September 28th, Hamilton and Toronto will wrap-up a home-and-home series when the Bulldogs visit the Marlies at Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will close the pre-season on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. with a home game against the Utica Comets, AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, at the J.L. Grightmire Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ontario.

“These pre-season games in Dundas and Oakville give our organization an opportunity to reach out to these communities with an intimate experience of our on-ice product,” said ‘Dogs President Stephen Ostaszewicz.  “We’re also pleased to be able to work with the Oakville Blades Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club and the Dundas Minor Hockey Association as they use these exhibition games as fundraisers for their respective organizations.”

Tickets for the September 27th contest at Oakville’s Sixteen Mile Sports Complex (capacity 2,013) will go on sale for $20 plus HST on Friday, September 6th during the Oakville Blades vs. Milton Icehawks game.  Tickets will also be available after September 6th at Oakville Blades home games, online at www.oakvilleblades.com and at Puckz Pub, located inside of Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.

Official Release: Bulldogs Sign Hamilton Native Drew Schiestel

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the signing of free agent defenceman Drew Schiestel to a one-year, two-way American Hockey League / ECHL contract for the 2013-2014 season.

Schiestel, 24, split the 2012-2013 season between the AHL’s Rochester Americanhamiltonbulldogsbackgrounds and the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors. In 35 regular season games with Rochester, he recorded three points (one goal, two assists) and 16 penalty minutes. He also played in three Calder Cup Playoff games, recording two penalty minutes. In three games with Greenville, he recorded no points and no penalty minutes.

In 191 career regular season AHL games with the Americans, Portland Pirates and Texas Stars, the Hamilton, Ontario native has registered 55 points (nine goals, 46 assists) and 87 penalty minutes. Schiestel was selected to participate in the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic, but was unable to attend due to injury.

The 6’1”, 197-pound defenceman was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round, 59th overall, in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League for the Mississauga IceDogs (2005-2007) and Niagara IceDogs (2007-2009), recording 111 points (25 goals, 86 assists) and 197 penalty minutes in 237 regular season games.

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Frédéric St. Denis a to one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract for the 2013-14 season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, further terms were not disclosed.

photo_2138185_stdenisSt. Denis, 27, has spent the past four seasons with the Montréal Canadiens organization, recording 1-2-3 and a +3 plus/minus rating in 17 games with Montréal and 19-69-88, +27 in 263 games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League.

The 5-11, 192-pound defenseman competed in the AHL All-Star Game in 2011-12 and was named the Bulldogs’ Top Defenseman for 2010-11.

In five seasons with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, St. Denis recorded 44-111-155 and a +21 rating in 285 games from 2002-07. He was named an Ontario University Athletics First-Team All-Star in 2007-08, his lone season of Canadian Interuniversity Sport hockey.

HAMILTON, ONT – Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the Bulldogs have recalled defenceman Antoine Corbin from the San Francisco Bulls of the ECHL.

dc81cb71c0ac4e1557a551dcorbinCorbin, 20, played 30 games for the Bulldogs earlier this season recording three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and 22 penalty minutes. Corbin was reassigned to the Bulls on March 20th and played six games notching one goal and accumulating 18 penalty minutes. The 6’3”, 206-pound defenceman spent parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Kelowna Rockets registering 70 points (27 goals, 43 assists) and 269 penalty minutes in 189 regular season games.

KYLE HAGEL NAMED BULLDOGS’ 2012-2013 IOA/AMERICAN SPECIALTY AHL MAN OF THE YEAR

HAMILTON, ONT – The Hamilton Bulldogs are proud to announce that Kyle Hagel has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Hamilton community during the 2012-13 season.

Hagel, a Hamilton native, created a “Stick to Reading” program for two schools in his hometown. Hagel, along with other Bulldogs’ players, made numerous visits to Hess Street School and St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School to promote literacy and encourage the elementary school students to read. In addition, Hagel created a contest to reward the students in each class who read the most books within a six-week time frame with prizes including the opportunity to play in a ball hockey game with the team, a chance to tour the team’s dressing room, meet-and-greets with Hamilton players and free tickets to Bulldogs games.

Hagel also participated in many team events throughout the season such as a team visit to 8 Wing/CFB Trenton which included a community skate at RCAF Flyers Arena, the McMaster Children’s Hospital visit, several community practices and skates with minor hockey teams in the area and the Bowling with the ‘Dogs event.

Hagel graduated with a degree in Political Science from Princeton University and always reminds the students that even though he is a hockey player, he still found time to study and get through school. Hagel hopes to continue to encourage students to keep reading as it is an important aspect in school and in life.

Hagel is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL’s 2012-13 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League on Apr. 18.
The Hamilton Bulldogs have had two previous winners of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, Mike Minard in 1999-2000 and Duncan Milroy in 2004-2005.

Bulldogs Sign Sebastian Collberg to Try-Out Contract

HAMILTON, ONT – Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the Bulldogs have signed forward Sebastian Collberg to a Professional Try-Out Contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

CollbergCollberg, 19, played 35 games this season for Vastra Frolunda HC of the Swedish Elite League registering nine points (6 goals, 3 assists) and six penalty minutes. The 5’11”, 185-pound forward won a Silver Medal with Team Sweden at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-20 World Junior Championship while helping Sweden win Gold in 2012. The native of Mariestad, Sweden played 35 games for Frolunda in the SuperElit J20 in 2010-2011 and notched 44 points (21 goals, 23 assists) and 12 penalty minutes. Collberg was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round, 33rd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Merth, 25, played seven games for the Bulldogs and recorded one assist and eight penalty minutes.
