MONTREAL, QC. — Earlier today, the QMJHL announced their roster for the upcoming CHL vs Russia Subway Super Series. Making the roster is Montreal Canadiens prospect Daniel Audette who plays for the Sherbrooke Phoenix. In the current season, the Phoenix’s Audette has four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in nine games, he has eight penalty minutes meanwhile being a minus-3 so far.

The CHL has been facing off against Russia in a Super Series since 2003, the series was first called the RE/Max Canada-Russia Challenge. Then from 2004 to 2008 it was called the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. Since then it has had its current name.

Overall since 2003 the CHL has dominated the series, beating Russia a combined 49 to 23 throughout the WHL, OHL and QMJHL. The CHL has scored 289 total goals meanwhile they have given up 188. This series gives organizations, fans and everyone a chance to see some of the top young junior players in the world play against each other.

Daniel Audette:

Montreal Canadiens prospect Daniel Audette has been named to the QMJHL roster for the tournament, Audette is a smaller stature forward who uses his deceptive speed and hands to beat his opponents.

“His bloodlines and elusiveness put the undersized Audette on scout’s radar because of his skill, speed and heart. His skating base, and lower body strength make him strong on the puck and a guy who plays big and is a scoring threat at a moment’s notice. Reads the ice and can handle the puck at his top gear, but also he can go laterally with sharp cuts and stop/starts to get loose. His vision allows him to slip away and act on the room he has made for himself, as he passes the puck extremely well and also works hard in his own end back checking. Looks like a good long term selection who may help a team down the road. “ – Draft year scouting report from Bill Placzek

Audette has only got better this season, he continues to use his very strong passing ability and vision to succeed, Audette has continue to work on his defensive game where he works hard to maintain good positioning to not allow his man to beat him.

ST. JOHN’S, NL. — The Canadiens 2012 third round draft pick is a feel-good story if there ever was one. In a publicly announced battle with meningitis, Tim Bozon was fighting for much more than a spot on the Habs roster. Bozon spent almost two weeks in a medically-induced coma in early 2014 after complaining of severe headaches and becoming non-responsive. Upon waking up from the coma, Bozon has to spend months rehabilitating and eventually made his way back to the Habs development camp that fall. He was sent back to juniors to the Kootenay Ice after the Habs brass deemed it necessary to bring him along slowly. Although this has effectively burned the first year of his entry level contract, it was well worth it for his development after finishing the 2014-15 season with 35 goals.

Bozon began his junior career on fire with the Kamloops Blazers putting up 71 points in 71 games in a much more defensive Western Hockey League. This warranted the Habs selection of him 64th overall at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. He never disappointed in his sophomore campaign putting up another 36 goals adding 55 assists on an electric line with J.C. Lipon and Colin Smith. Bozon has demonstrated in four seasons at the junior level that whether with a top tier team such as Kamloops (first in their division) or middle of the pack like Kootenay (seventh in their conference) , he’s been able to contribute by putting the puck in the back of the net.

As of now Bozon comes into the AHL with the advantage of being a year older than most rookies out of the Canadian junior system. Figuring to be more of a goal scorer, we have him slated to fit nicely on that second line next to big Mike McCarron and AHL vet Sven Andrighetto. Expectations must be dialed back as he still looks to find his way, but at 6-foot-1-inch and 207 pounds he has enough size to compete, and there is potential there to follow up Daniel Carr’s campaign as the top rookie goal scorer in the AHL. Goal scoring, after all, was his specialty in junior through four years Bozon found the back 140 times in just 260 games. That is exactly what Sylvain Lefebvre is hoping to get out of the Switzerland native.

Canadiens Assign Forward Tim Bozon to Kootenay Ice of WHL

Canadiens assign forward Tim Bozon to the Kootenay Ice

Montreal Canadiens PRESS RELEASE

630194_ebTimBozon

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that forward Tim Bozon has been assigned to his junior team, the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.

“Tim Bozon has come a long way. He fought a life-threatening disease with courage and determination and we are pleased with what he accomplished in the last few months. He was able to take part in the rookie camp, the Canadiens’ official camp and the Hamilton Bulldogs training camp. However, with his progression having been diminished due to illness, we feel that one of the priorities for his long term development is for him to fully regain his physical strength. We believe that joining the Kootenay Ice in the WHL is the right decision at this time as it will allow Tim to fully recover”, said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.

Bozon, 20, took part in the Canadiens’ rookie camp last September, as well as the Club’s main camp. The 6’01’’ and 189 lbs forward played in his first professional game on September 26 in Quebec City. Bozon was assigned to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs on September 28. He played in all three preseason games with the Bulldogs against the St. John’s Icecaps.

In 63 games with Kamloops and Kootenay in the WHL in 2013-14, Bozon collected 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists).

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Bozon was selected in the third round, 64th overall by the Canadiens at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
